an adoption story: meet Greta (another one!)

We have a very special adoption story this week…another Greta! Here is Greta’s story told by her mom Allie: “Greta Sayers Hasson was originally named Reese, and for good reason.  Greta’s breed is one all her own and she is colored in hues of chocolate and peanut butter.  In fact, when I get asked what type of dog she is, I have been known to answer, ‘she’s mon petit chocolate peanut butter cup husky with marshmallow paws.’  I (only) crack myself up, but really she’s probably the cutest dog I’ve ever seen in my life.

I was living in the mountain city of Roanoke, Virginia when I saw an ad on petfinder.com for Reese, a darling member of a newly found litter of about 6 littles ones found in a nearby rural area.  Of course, like many other adopters I just went to “meet” her, and took her home immediately.  In my romanticized memory of this day, I often forget the reality that she and all her siblings were covered in gross fleas and that she threw up all over me in the car on the way home. I think that’s because, once I knew she was mine, none of that mattered. Greta soon got her new name, multiple flea treatments, all her shots, and much more used to riding in cars.

Greta has been with me since soon after I graduated college.  She has seen me through much of my transition into adulthood, and she has lived with me in three very different cities and has adapted beautifully to each one. We now live in Chicago and she is by my side every day as we walk to see what Lake Michigan has to offer us, and sometimes she tries to snag a bite of my pizza or broccoli or berry tart.  She embodies the perfect definition of a steadfast companion, and I am so thankful to have her in my life.  I cannot more highly recommend the experience of adopting a dog.  It has been one of the smartest decisions I have ever made.”
